SOLO Disability income

​SOLO Disability income offers a monthly amount to replace your client’s income or salary in the event of a disability. This coverage allows them to focus on their recovery and not to worry about financial difficulties tied to income loss.

Main features

First $1,200 guaranteed for the first 36 months

No integration nor coordination for the first 36 months of a total disability.

Payment of monthly amount on the first day in the event of hospitalization or day surgery

The client is eligible to receive a monthly amount with no waiting period and as soon as the first day in the event of hospitalization or day surgery.

Amount payable at death

A payment equal to 5x the monthly insurance amount will be paid to the beneficiary if the insured dies while receiving disability monthly amounts.

Exchange privilege

The client can exchange SOLO Disability income for SOLO Loan insurance coverage during the first 7 years of the policy and based on the age at issue.

Issue ages (age to the nearest birthday)

  • 18 to 60: T65
  • 18 to 50: T10

Eligibility requirements

Belong to an occupation class other than "X" and work at least:

  • 30 hours a week and
    • Be employed at least 40 weeks a year OR
    • Be employed between 35 to 39 weeks (minimum waiting period of 60 days)
  • 24 to 29 hours per week during 40 weeks per year (minimum waiting period of 90 days)

  • 4A, 3A, 2A, A and B

  • 30 days

  • 120 days
  • 180 days
  • 365 days
  • 730 days

For waiting periods of 90 days or less, the monthly amount is payable as of the first day in the event of hospitalization or day surgery

The "+" sign indicates the monthly amount is payable as of the first day in the event of an accident.

Benefit period

  • 2 years
  • 5 years
  • Up to age 65

The benefit period is always a minimum of 2 years, even if the policy ends at age 65.

For example, if the insured is totally disabled at age 64, he will be receiving a monthly amount for 2 years and therefore, until age 66 even though the policy ends at age 65.

Monthly amount

  • Minimum: $400
  • Maximum:
    • 4A: $15,000
    • 3A: $14,000
    • 2A: $10,000
    • A: $8,000
    • B: $7,000

Premium structure

  • Term 65: Level up to age 65
  • Term 10: Level for 10 years

The premium structure may be changed from T10 to T65 without evidence of insurability if the insured is 50 or under.

Renewal

  • Guaranteed renewable up to age 65
  • Continuation of coverage after age 65

Total disability definition

  • Regular occupation 24 months

Recurrent disability

  • 12 months – occupation class 3A and 4A
  • 6 months – occupation class B, A, 2A

  • Payable amount at death of 5x the monthly amount on policy

End of coverage

The coverage will terminate when the first of the following events occurs:

  • Death of the client
  • Policy anniversary nearest to age 65
  • Policy lapse
  • Date of exchange from SOLO Disability income coverage to SOLO Loan insurance
  • Client’s retirement date
